Rooted in Asbury Park, New Jersey, Fungkshui grew out of friendship, a shared love of music, and the urge to build something new. Founding members Jack Reed and Jon Scheps started the band shortly after high school, playing their first show at Long Branch’s Brighton Bar in July 2016. From those early days on the Jersey Shore, the band developed a sound that brings together the grit of rock, the pulse of funk, and the trip of psychedelic. Max Vitale’s arrival in 2021 and Bobby Reilly’s in 2023 solidified the lineup, bringing the chemistry that defines Fungkshui today.

Their name tells part of their story. Harmony, rhythm, and psychedelic exploration: three ideas that connect their different musical backgrounds and give them a shared direction. That balance sits at the center of Fungkshui. Each member brings distinct tastes and instincts and a healthy appetite for experimentation, giving the music its mix of weight, depth, and personality. The result feels spirited, curious, and entirely unique.

With a solid regional following and a headlining Stone Pony show under their belt, Fungkshui is turning hometown roots into real momentum. The band is currently touring and reaching new listeners while carrying the spirit of the Jersey Shore with them.
